things to research
1.
Do I want to attend college or go straight to working after high school? College will give you more options as a designer, but going into printing or a flexo trade school is an option to look into if college isn't for you. Research the career you want to find out what level of education/experience is needed to reach your goal.
2.
Am I ready for a 4 year university or should I start with community college? What are the options to reach my career goal and what will work best for me personally? There's no "one size fits all" plan, personalize it!
3.
Reach out to the head of the department at the colleges you're interested in and ASK QUESTIONS! One question you should always ask "What percentage of your design graduates find work in field within the first year of leaving your school?"
4.
Where do you want to live when you graduate college? Look online to see what type of design jobs and salaries are being posted in that area. Does it fit with what you want for your life?
5.
Find a mentor that is already doing what you want to be doing 5 years after graduating high school. Ask them questions. What things did they do that helped them find success? What things would they do differently?
